- Next clock change: November 7, 2027. Los Angeles moves to PST (UTC−8), so Los Angeles is then 8 hours behind UTC.
UTC to PST for every hour
Each PST column holds for part of the year (dates in the header for 2027). The first uses the fixed offset (PST UTC−8); the others give local clock time when daylight saving time changes the gap. Until 8:00 AM UTC, PST is still on the previous calendar day. The dot marks the current UTC hour.

Does the difference change during the year?
As written, no: PST is always UTC−8, so the gap is 8 hours on every date. But Los Angeles uses PST only in winter, and people often keep writing “PST” when they mean the local time. Between UTC and the local clock in Los Angeles, the gap is 8 hours or 7 hours:
| From | What changes | UTC | Los Angeles | PST vs UTC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January 1 | Start of the year | UTC (UTC+0) | PST (UTC−8) | −8 h |
| March 8 | Los Angeles moves to PDT (UTC−7) | UTC (UTC+0) | PDT (UTC−7) | −7 h |
| November 1 | Los Angeles moves to PST (UTC−8) | UTC (UTC+0) | PST (UTC−8) | −8 h |

Converting UTC to PST by hand
With the fixed offsets, take away 8 hours: 3:30 PM UTC is 7:30 AM PST.
With the −7 h gap (Mar 14 – Nov 7), take away 7 hours: 3:30 PM UTC is 8:30 AM PST.
Going back from PST to UTC, do the opposite: the PST to UTC page has its own table.
Reading a UTC timestamp as PST time
Logs, APIs and flight plans usually carry UTC. A timestamp ending in Z is UTC, and one ending in an offset already says how far from UTC it is. These two name the same moment:
2027-01-15T20:00:00Z2027-01-15T12:00:00-08:00
The offset in the second form is the one in force on that date (January 15, 2027). A program should store the UTC form and apply the right offset when it displays the time, rather than storing a local time and hoping the offset is still the same.
What UTC and PST mean
Coordinated Universal Time
UTC is the world’s reference time. It has no daylight saving time and no seasons: every UTC offset you see (UTC−5, UTC+5:30) is measured from it.
Pacific Standard Time
PST is UTC−8: winter time in California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada (and Baja California). British Columbia no longer uses it: since 2026 Vancouver stays on UTC−7 all year.
PST can also mean Philippine Standard Time (UTC+8, the Philippines). This page uses Pacific Standard Time, the meaning people searching for this conversion have in mind. For another one, type the city into the time zone converter.
