About Singapore’s public holidays
Singapore’s gazetted public holidays. Lunar, Islamic, Hindu and Buddhist holidays are announced each year by the Ministry of Manpower; when a holiday falls on a Sunday, the next day is a public holiday.
In 2026, 11 holiday days are listed; 1 of them fall on a Saturday or Sunday and are not moved, and 3 are taken on another day because the date falls on a weekend. 6 are taken on a Monday or Friday, making a three-day weekend.
Weekends and substitute days
If a public holiday in the Schedule falls on a Sunday, the next following day not itself a public holiday is a public holiday (Holidays Act 1998 s.4(2); MOM: 'Monday ... will be a public holiday if your rest day falls on [the Sunday]'). No substitute day for Saturday holidays (employees not working Saturdays get a day off in lieu or pay, per Employment Act).
Legal basis: Holidays Act 1998 (Singapore) s.4 and Schedule; s.5 gazette notifications.
