These are the 11 federal holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103. They bind federal employees and are followed by banks and many employers, but private employers are not required to give them, and states add their own holidays.
In 2026, 11 holiday days are listed; 1 is taken on another day because the date falls on a weekend. 8 are taken on a Monday or Friday, making a three-day weekend.
Weekends and substitute days
If a holiday falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday is treated as the holiday for most Federal employees (5 U.S.C. 6103(b)); if on Sunday, the following Monday (E.O. 11582 s.3(a)).
