How “N days ago” is counted
“N days ago” is today’s date minus N calendar days. Yesterday is 1 day ago, the same weekday last week is 7 days ago, and every day counts, weekends and holidays included. 90 days ago was Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Counting back has one trap that counting forward does not: windows such as “the last 30 days”. A window of 30 days that ends today and includes today starts on the 29th day back, not the 30th, because today is one of the 30. Analytics tools, bank statements and return policies are not consistent about this, so a report of “the last 30 days” may start on Sunday, October 4, 2026 or on Monday, October 5, 2026. When two numbers do not match, check whether both include today.
Days ago and months ago
A month ago is not 30 days ago. Counting back one calendar month keeps the day of the month: one month before March 31, 2027 is Sunday, February 28, 2027, the last day of February, while 30 days before it is Monday, March 1, 2027. Use days when a rule is stated in days (“returns within 30 days”, “90 days prior”), and the calendar month when it is stated in months.
Across years and leap days
Counting back across New Year moves into the previous year, and across a 29 February adds that extra day to the count: 365 days before a date in spring 2028 lands one calendar day later than the same date in 2027, because 29 February 2028 is one of the 365 days. The count itself handles both on its own; each N-days-ago page states whether the span holds a 29 February and which year the date was in.
Weekday of a past date
Seven days ago is always the same weekday as today, and so is any multiple of seven. For other counts, the weekday moves back by the remainder: 90 days is 12 weeks and 6 days, so 90 days before a Monday was a Tuesday. Each page has a table of the weekday N days ago for every day of the week.
Typical uses
People look up past dates to check whether something is still inside a window: a return or warranty period, a 60- or 90-day review, a medical or residence rule stated as days within a period, or how long ago an event was. For the time since a specific date, enter both dates in days between two dates; for working days only, use the business days calculator. Counting forward is on days from today.
